Disney Presents the Lion King Touring June 2

Ever since Disney launched its own streaming platform, Disney+, fans have been wondering when their favorite movie or television series would arrive on demand. Disney has already released a slew of titles under its various franchises – Marvel, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, etc. – but when can fans expect the studio to release 2019's The Lion King? Here's everything we know about when The Lion King will drop on Disney+.

This is when 'The Lion King' will premiere on Disney+

Disney has yet to announce anything official on The Lion King's release date. But we do know that the movie will be available to stream by the end of January.

If fans go to Disney+ right now, they will find a placeholder for The Lion King, which says exactly when the movie will hit the streaming service. Unless Disney changes things at the last minute, The Lion King should be available on January 28 – which is super exciting news.

According to We Got This Covered, The Lion King was one of Disney's most profitable movies in 2019, making around $1.6 million in overall ticket sales. The film featured the most up-to-date CGI, though some fans did not feel like it lived up to the 1994 original.

Even still, there are plenty of fans who cannot wait to watch The Lion King when it hits Disney+. Luckily, they will not have to wait much longer.

What other movies are coming soon?

While Disney+ already has a slew of amazing titles, fans are eager for the streaming service to add a few more films to its lineup.

Although a good chunk of Disney's projects are already available to stream, there are plenty of movies and television series that have yet to debut.

This includes but is not limited to Frankenweenie, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Enchanted, Titan A.E., Ever After, George of the Jungle, Mrs. Doubtfire, Father of the Bride, and Dick Tracy.

Disney has not revealed when most of these titles will be available to stream on Disney+, but it shouldn't be long before the studio releases them.

With the success of shows like The Mandalorian, fans can also expect more originals to be released from Disney in the coming years. This, of course, includes a slew of Marvel television shows, which are set to premiere as early as 2021.

Things are looking up for Disney+

With so many streaming services on the market, it was unclear if launching its own platform was a good move for Disney. Although Disney+ has only been live for a few months, it is abundantly clear that the streaming service is a huge success.

According to CNBC, investors have already valued Disney+ at over $100 billion – and that is only two months after the streaming service launched.

Over the past year, stock in Disney has grown over 30 percent. As far as Disney+ is concerned, the shares are up six percent since November.

The reports also noted that Disney has a market cap of over $250 billion. As a comparison, Netflix's cap is sitting around $144 billion.

Although Netflix has been in the streaming game for much longer than Disney, the studio has been making movies and shows since the 1930s.

What's next for the streaming service?

Although Disney's foray into the digital world is a huge success, stock prognosticators are not sure the studio will keep performing at a high rate.

If everything goes to plan, Disney hopes to gain anywhere between 60 and 90 million subscribers by the end of 2024. The studio attracted 10 million customers on the first day of launch and is hoping to have 25 million in a few months.

But in order to keep up with Netflix, which has over 158 million subscribers around the world, Disney might need to partner with internet service providers to bundle services. This would similar to the partnership that Netflix and Comcast share, which has already proved successful.

Disney has not made any comments about the success of Disney+. Hopefully, the studio will continue to release more titles throughout the year and continue to satisfy fans.
